Deana Hinson, MSW, LCSW

In a world that can seem more and more divisive in both personal and more global ways, we all often need the opportunity to process the struggles that life often creates.  I have been very fortunate to have worked in a career that invokes passion and commitment to supporting others in a path of personal growth.  As a professional, I have been able to empathetically react to the needs of others and help guide others to explore what is needed to manage life’s challenges.

It has been my goal to work to support others through affirmation and exploring the barriers to happiness and comfort with one’s daily life.  My approach typically involves cognitive behavior therapy that involves evaluating how one perceives their experiences and adjusting this to be more productive.  I have received training in multiple therapeutic modalities.  My work is individualized and most of all hopes to help others find peace with the life they are living.

I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a BA in Psychology and earned my Masters of Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University.   I have been licensed since 1995. I have worked for many years in community mental health settings, as well as experience working with youth.   This experience has involved working with individuals experiencing many concerns from serious mental illnesses to issues of adjusting to normal transitions of life.

I work with adults and late teens, and specialize in the following areas:

  • Depression and other mood disorders

  • Life change and crisis

  • Anxiety disorders

  • Self-esteem struggles

  • Divorce and recovery

  • Communication skills

  • Holistic care

  • Work/life balance
